      In the process of deep hole machining, the bit will generate heat due to friction, which will "heat treat" the workpiece around the hole, thus producing work hardening. This heat heats the workpiece. When the coolant reaches the heated material, it is quenched by the coolant. In the following series of retreating process, the drill bit meets the hardened material, so that the drill bit is worn or damaged.
