The manual three-jaw chuck on the headstock clamps one end of the work piece, the cone on the guide frame automatically pushes the other end of the work piece.

Z-axis: Longitudinal feed motion of the drill pipe box, with a servo motor driving the rack and pinion mechanism through a reduction gear.
